DISCUSSION #01
Well gather around children with a hot cup of talk! It's time for discussions! You take the question or topic I give you, you give me back an answer, and you get two cards! Let's participate!
This round's question:
Who would you consider your main character? Who do you like to have as your controllable character?
This round ends on March 6th! Have a great two weeks!

However, if we're talking exclusively about the characters we prefer to control in the game, then Milla is the one I prefer most as my controllable character. I really enjoy her spirit shift ability and wide-range of elemental attacks, and I feel she's a great evolution of the magic swordsman class.

Though occasionally I end up preferring the resident archer because some of them have fast attack animations, or maybe the delay is acceptable because they're ranged weapons. (Natalia, Raven kind of) I don't know.
I don't know if I have a main exactly, because I admit I mostly get through Tales games by button mashing orz;;

Out of all characters ever I'd say Jude is probably my favorite to play because he's super fast and also very powerful... plus once I figured out snap pivoting it was a lot of fun...

On the other hand though, for controllable characters I really enjoyed controlling Hubert from Tales of Graces. I like his speed and the range he can get and just the fact that it was a speardualswordtwinpistolsbow weapon. The best weapon.

My main character to use in the games? Senel for sure. I'm biased because Legendia was my first Tales game, but Good Old Fisticuffs are fast, blocking is easy, and no Tales game yet has been able to provide a move quite as satisfying as all of Senel's "pick up enemy (no matter how large) and throw them the fuck down" moves. I can pick up giant elemental godwhales with this move! WHALES MAN. I even prefer the 2D battle screen to the 3D ones that the rest of the Tales games have (ducks for cover oh god, unpopular opinions).
That said, in other games I rarely default from the initial protagonist (Luke/Asbel/Jude/etc.) to play as someone else. I just get comfortable with their fighting style and don't really want to bother with learning someone else's.

Probably my favorite character to CONTROL is Jude. I found him to be the easiest/most comprehensive character to use.

Not sure who I would consider my main, but Sophie was definitely the most fun to control.

Out of all the games, my favourite character to control is Repede!! He's super fast (which seems to be a common factor in choosing a main in this comm, ha) and I will admit I did enjoy cheesing a bit on higher difficulties by abusing the fact he has abilities with invincibility frames!
Also, there aren't many other games that let you fight as a dog!
Unless I find a character really gels with me like Repede did (also Hermana and Hubert, love their skill sets), I tend not to really main any characters 'cause I like swapping around to give myself battle variety.

I think I generally tend to stick to the mid-range/balanced, sword wielding protagonists (Yuri, Shing, etc) otherwise, though I main Alvin in Xillia which I find surprisingly fun for being the big slow guy. Ludger's a lot of fun too. I pretty much just sit on the boat of "AS LONG AS I DON'T HAVE TO PLAY CASTERS."

Also, Xillia is the first time I've tried my hand at playing any of the non-Protag characters in battle just for fun without being forced (as all the others force you to take up another party member's battle style at one point or another - Xillia included). After all that! I prefer Jude still. He's probably my favorite so far, being a nice blend of up-close-button-mashing action (which is the thing I do best, I'm a terrible mage battler) and flashy artes/heal-recovery artes. I'm good at Leia, fair at Milla and Alvin, though.
However when on the map! I'll switch map characters around all the time if I can, but I usually like: Sheena, Jade, Yuri or Judith, Milla. (Haven't tried it in Graces oops.)

SO BASICALLY
Symphonia: Either Lloyd or Kratos so far.
Abyss: LUKE but also Jade so far.
Vesperia: Always Yuri. Sometimes Karol, though.
Graces: The most I have for all of them so far. Asbel and Hubert when I play alone, but when I'm playing with my friend, I tend to use Richard or Sophie, too (since we're not far enough for us to have Hubert in our party sdkfljasfksa).
Xillia: JUDE. JUDE ALWAYS AND FOREVER.

I really like characters with different weapons who use giant weapons, regardless of speed, so. Alvin it is.

- though it is also fun to control Jade in abyss, even if that is just spamming his spear attacks. Abyss has an easy way to switch between four characters in battle so my team there is usually like Jade + Tear + Natalia + Anise (though I've been switching her out occasionally in an attempt to broaden my horizons). It also wins for favorite battle system due to free run not being some complicated thing.
- when I am playing with other people it's always tended to be support characters anyway, like Estelle (though I am still unused to that battle system), cheria (see battle system problems), and leia (ditto).
